Dr. Rupshi Mitra works at the intersection of science and art, bridging her specialization in neuroscience with her deep-rooted creativity as an artist.
Through her research in neuroscience, she established the profound role of biophilia, our innate bond with nature in nurturing cognition, resilience, and brain plasticity across all ages. Her art extends this scientific proof, beyond academia, into people’s appreciation of
both nature and art. She hopes to bring a bit of biophilia into everyone’s home.
The combination of intellect and creativity is unique in Rupshi’s work, and it comes alive in
every brush stroke and composition. Her work is an ongoing investigation into perception,
memory, and emotion. Just as neuroscience uncovers the routines of thought, her art
attempts to render the unsaid patterns of the soul, translating the reductionist language of
science into something more sensory and poetic.
Dr Rupshi Mitra was born and raised in one of the most populous places on Earth, Kolkata, West Bengal. This gave her an immediate exposure to the best of possibilities in art and science in India at that time. From an early age, she has been inspired in both science and art through her curious mind, and her father’s acutely intense watercolor paintings of beautiful sunset and village sceneries.
